I love you, Kamurocho is a photobook that collects images made by Salvador Flores within the world of Yakuza 6: The Song of life. The project reflects on the nature of digital photography, in an example of the appropriation and interpretation of a completely artificial environment such as a video game.
In the Yakuza video game saga, Kamurocho is a cosmopolitan neighborhood focused on nightlife, mainly. The photobook collects this life through its surroundings, which exude habitability and movement, conscientiously representing the hustle and bustle - or the occasional rest - that can occur in these places. This narrative that builds I love You, Kamurocho. Create your main tool when presenting your speech.
Going beyond screenshots, I love you, Kamurocho claims the appropriation of these environments and authorship through the interpretation of digital spaces. Equating the digital and the tangible through the lens of photography, which uses the same language and memory in both cases.
The project is proposed from the photobook and an editorial design oriented to the printed edition. The image is treated to remind the photographic film in its finish and represented subject.
In short, all the communicative elements of the project are self-validating as an artistic work with its own discourse, both narrative and conceptual.
A way of reclaiming the video game as a work that generates cultural inspiration beyond its own artistic medium, a contribution that recognizes the “fandom” movement as a producer of ideas and art as valid as the original work.
